There are currently 1.2 billion people on earth who do not access to safe drinking water. For these people, water is so valuable that it can be likened to a blue diamond.
Rather than sunlight or wind power, sustainable energy research is now focussing on “blue energy” which will produce electricity using only sea and river water as a new source of renewable energy.
CO2 separation and collection systems, which will prevent global warming; separation membranes for purifying water; and green technology for fuel cells and rechargeable batteries, are all becoming increasingly important in the 21st century.
